Just a rehearsal for Christmas dinner.
As usual the most of the food on the table will be from traditional Russian cuisine.
Here is one of the favourites : Herring under a Fur Coat
You might raise your brows: under a fur coat?
That’s right, it is a literal translation of the name. Sometimes we call it SHUBA , which is the word for a fur coat in Russian. And of cause there is no fur on a plate. It is simply diced smoked or cured herring filets dressed 🙂 with root vegetables, egg and mayonnaise, one of those dishes that you either love or hate. Though I can definitely say that I don’t know any Russian who does not like it.

I hope that a little girl called Bianca enjoyed her birthday cake.
Happy birthday, Bianca!
Oh, yes! Another cake! This time it’s my own recipe : simple in its separate layers, but sophisticated in how all the ingredients and layers work together. It’s like falling in love : with each bite there is an explosion of new textures and flavours, you want more and more, and when the plate is empty you have nice after-taste , feeling complete and happy to have it again tomorrow, then the day after and then the day after that and every day! 🙂
Our guests were asking for seconds: the best complement one could ever have!
I present :
THE CAKE “VALENTINE”
Finally Bon appetit!
This post is created a day later, as we had other priorities, like eating the Christmas dinner, calling and receiving the phone calls from friends and family and having a good time!
Merry Christmas everybody!
The Brussel Sprouts are cooked and ready to go under a grill just 20 minutes before serving:
Brussel Sprouts cut in halves, smoked bacon chopped, leeks sliced, pre-cooked vacuum packed chestnuts
In a deep frying pan with a splash of oil cook together bacon and leeks for about 20 minutes.
Push them on the side of the pan and lay brussel spouts halves cut side down, pushing leeks and bacon on the top of the sprouts as you fill the bottom of the pan.
Turn the heat up until the sprouts start really sizzling, then add a half of a glass of Marsala wine , cover the pan with a lid and cook on a medium heat for further 15 minutes. The wine should cook out totally.
Add crumbled chestnuts.
It’s ready to go under the high grill for 15 -20 minutes before serving
What do you mean ” what’s up”? It’s C H R I S T M A S!
